Podcast: Gender Inequality in the Workplace

Written by Bahar Sen & Aykan Rashidoglu | Aug 26, 2019 9:00:00 PM

In this episode, we talked about inequality and unconscious bias against women in the workplace.

Research from our partner Vitalsmarts shows that when women are as assertive or dominant as their male counterparts, there is a significant reduction in their perceived competence and perceived value to others. Men who are assertive are also punished, but to a much lesser extent than women.
For example, for women who speak equally aggressively as men, they have reduced their status, the respect they are held in, by 41%, while for men they have reduced their status by only 25%, a difference of 16%. They reduced perceived competence by 22% for men and 35% for women. They reduced the perceived value by USD 6547 for men and USD 15088 for women.
